Introduction
If you experience infrastructure issues that prevent your Automation Operations from running smoothly, the Windows Event Logs can help you and Roboyo Support to quickly diagnose the issue.
The Windows Event Logs are any type of logs that were written by the operations system and the applications that are running on it. Roboyo Support will often ask you to retrieve and share the event logs. This article gives you a step-by-step explanation of how you can retrieve these logs:
Step 1: Open the Event Viewer
Login to the machine where the issue occurs and open up the Event Viewer as Administration (use right mouse click).
Step 2: Select Application Logs
Open the Windows Logs for Application
Step 3: Filter
Click on "Filter Current Log.." and select the time period in which the incident occured (e.g. Last 12 hours)
Step 4: Save Event Logs
Click on "Save Filtered Log File As.." and type in a meaningfull name in the "File name:" field in the "Save As"-window.
The filetype "*.evtx" is a common filetype and does not need to be changed.
Step 5: Select English
Make sure to select "English" (and optionally also German) in the Display Information window that pops-up after you clicked on Save at Step 4.
Step 6: Repeat the previous steps for the Windows System Logs
Select the "System" under Windows Logs and repeat Step 3, 4 and 5 to also retrieve the "Windos System Logs"
That`s it!
You just retrieved the Windows Application Logs and the Windows System Logs.
Make sure to share them with your internal IT contact or Roboyo Support.
